We've really enjoyed getting to know some of the people in Leland and the surrounding area much better as a result of our winning bid for the North Manitou Shoal Light. So far, we consider the people we've met since the news broke about the auction for the lighthouse (in the Summer of 2016) one of the very best parts of this adventure. Here are some of the stories in which we've been fortunate enough to take part.
This story announced the auction. Perhaps it was written about the same time our dreams of becoming light keepers were beginning to take shape.
In this story our Board President, Daniel Oginsky, shares some of the details of how this all began with Amy Hubbell.
This was an exciting opportunity for us! Brendan Kinney of 7&4 and UpNorthLive.com traveled with Board Members Daniel and Anna Oginsky and Jake Kaberle to see the Crib and featured us in a news story! We had a blast with Brendan and Jimmy Munoz of North Manitou Island Transit, our fearless captain. Two of Jake's daughters were even able to join us! Make sure to watch Brendan's awesome news story as well as read it.
In this story Nicole White has a candid conversation about our plans with Board member, Jake Kaberle. We look forward to continuing to share our progress with Nicole!
In this feature story Carol South touches on the history of the Crib, how we came to be a part of its history, and our plans for the future. She also talks to Gene Sensing, a former member of the North Manitou Shoal Light crew in the 1960's.
